What Are Your Favorite Aldi Products?

PhotobucketFrank's question about the best Aldi products made me realize that there are a lot of Aldi products that I have never tried, and there are probably many that I will never even get to try. I usually try out one or two new Aldi products each week, as my grocery budget is limited, and like most people I prefer to buy products that I already feel comfortable with.

So, I have realized that I need your help...

I would love to hear from all of you, and I hope you will share your favorite (and not so favorite) Aldi products in the comment field.

What is your favorite Aldi product?

Have you found an Aldi product that you did not like?

If anyone would like to share a product review with us here at the Aldi Spot, you can send me an email at smartmomj @ gmail . com (remove the spaces).

If you have done any Aldi product reviews on your blogs, you can also leave the link below.

The Best Aldi Products: Question From An Aldi Spot Reader

PhotobucketYesterday I received a question from Frank, a new Aldi Spot reader. I wanted to share his question with all of you, since Frank is not the only one, who has asked me for advice on finding the best Aldi products

We have a new Aldi in our area and after visiting the store I'm confused and wondered if you could help me.  Without name brand products and the history of purchasing these new Aldi brands, I don't know where to start in trying these store products.  Can you recommend a couple of slam dunk products (taste, quality and price) that we can get started with other than eggs, milk and fruit.  Thanks for your help.

Frank

I want to thank Frank for asking this question, as I know it is relevant to many new Aldi shoppers. I am still learning about the many Aldi products myself, and when I find something I like, I always try to share it with all of you.

Besides the produce, milk and eggs at Aldi, all of which I can highly recommend, my family has also found number of Aldi products, which we always return to, if the price cannot be beat by competitors after coupons and sales.

I can highly recommend:

Aldi Product Review: Belmont Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream from Aldi $1.99

Belmont Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
My freezer was filled up to the max, but when I discovered that Aldi sold mint chocolate chip ice cream for $1.99, I convinced myself that I could find room both in the freezer and in the grocery budget.

Aldi stores have a couple of different ice cream brands, but I picked out the Belmont mint chocolate chip ice cream, because it called my name.

The creaminess is just right, and the chocolate chip mints have a perfect mint taste that leaves a minty flavor lingering on your tongue long after you have taken your last bite of ice cream.

The Belmont Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream had a very natural flavor and feel to it, and it felt like eating real ice cream. I am a big fan of the low calorie ice creams, frozen yogurt and anything to cut the calories, but once in a while it is good to get your hands on the real kind - the ice cream that take you back to childhood, when ice cream was ice cream with no artificial flavors, - preservatives and artificial sweeteners with names that I cannot pronounce.

An Eventful Aldi Shopping Day - I Saved $11 - How Much Did You Save? Link Up @ The Aldi Savings Linky

A Bonus Snack
This afternoon I dropped of my middle son at school, and then I walked back about a mile and a half to my oldest son's school. I was supposed to pick my son up, get on the bus and go get our Aldi shopping done before my husband would pick us up at Aldi. What started out as a relaxing walk in the park turned into quite an eventful day.

When I was across from my son's school I passed some police activity. At first glance it looked like someone had pulled over, and I thought the police were waiting for a K9 unit to do a search. In urban South Florida this is a very regular sight, so I did not think much of it. I crossed the street and walked into my son's school gates. Less than five minutes later the gates were locked, and we heard a lock down announcement. The small police scene that I had walked right past minutes earlier turned into quite a drama. There were lots of police, ambulances, firetrucks, and someone said they saw the swat team gear up at a neighboring parking lot. It was a bit difficult to see what was going on due to a fence, traffic and some trees blocking the view, but something was going on.

Simple Aldi Recipes: Cornflakes Chicken

One of my oldest son's favorite meals is cornflakes chicken, a simple recipe that my mother taught me many years ago. My eight-year-old son is currently my chef's assistance, as I keep telling him that he will soon be off to college cooking for himself.

Luckily he likes to help out in the kitchen, in fact my biggest problem is almost too much help in the kitchen, as keeping track of three little ones while cooking can be quite a task.

Cornflakes chicken is very a very simple recipe, and it is definitely a favorite at my house. By using ingredients from Aldi and from my deal hunting at other stores, cornflakes chicken has turned out to become a very frugal meal as well.

Ingredients needed:
Chicken legs
1 cup Cornflakes
1 egg
Your favorite seasonings

Aldi Product Feature: Benton's Cookies Honey Graham Crackers $1.19 - $1.79

Bentons cookies honey graham crackers aldi
My family has been quite brand loyal over the years, but thru couponing we have learned to give in for some items, but for others we still stick with our old favorites.  The Aldi Spot has gotten me totally interested in trying out many of their brands.   One of our new tries this week is Benton's Cookies Honey Graham Crackers.

Honey Maid Graham Crackers was one of those brand loyal items.  My mom is the biggest graham cracker eater that I know of, and since I get all her groceries for her I have tried to save her money by slipping in a different brands, whenever I found a great deal.  But she never found one she was satisfied with--so Honey Maid it was. Until yesterday.

The Aldi Price

On my Aldi trip I saw the Benton's Honey Graham Crackers and the price was $1.79, which is lower than I have been able to get the Honey Maid in a long time (usually $2.50 is the best) so I grabbed a box for her to try.  When I looked at the receipt it was only $1.19--not sure if it was a special or price change or I read the sign wrong.

Aldi Shopping Trip - Saved $12 - Savings Linky

My boys have come to appreciate the low prices on Aldi fruits, as we always have the fruit basket filled up, and every week they find something different. I no longer have to only buy 3 bananas, or find money somewhere else in the budget to buy $4 apples. Thanks to Aldi, it seems that we are getting a great tasting variety. My weekly savings by saving at Aldi is steady at $12 per week (see the Aldi price comparison list), which means that we save $50 a month by shopping at Aldi. To some people, $50 a month might not seem like much, but with a grocery budget of $50 - $60 a week for a family of five, $50 means a big difference.

I did not intend on buying the salmon again this week, but it was a personal request from my husband, so I guess he really did enjoy his grilled salmon this week.

Hot Aldi Price Alert: 2 lbs Grapes for $0.99

Yesterday I picked up 2 lbs grapes at Aldi for $0.99. I have never seen a price like that in South Florida, and I am usually content with paying $1.29 /lb at Publix. I saw people buy 3 and for packages at a time, but I was conservative and stuck to the one 2lb grapes package. This is my biggest shopping regret of the day, I should have bought at least 2 lbs, because the grapes at Aldi were so tasty that they are now gone.

As with grapes it is never easy to predict whether or not they taste well, but these sure did, and my husband and the kids were thrilled.

A few Aldi price highlights this week:
