Aldi Nutella!!! Berryhill Hazelnut Spread Finally at Aldi

Aldi Nutella Berryhill Hazelnut Spread
Aldi must be reading my mind, because it is not that long ago that I sent a wish out in Cyberspace for Aldi Nutella, well an Aldi version of the Nutella brand. I knew it was possible, and sure enough today I found Aldi Berryhill hazelnut spread on the shelf at my local South Florida Aldi store.

At $1.99, the Aldi hazelnut spread is about $1 - $1.50 less than the Nutella brand, so this is definitely a bargain. My kids just tested the Aldi hazelnut spread this afternoon, and there was consensus. The Aldi Hazelnut Spread from Berryhill tastes just as great as the regular Nutella.

I know hazelnut spreads are not the healthiest thing in the world, and I am sure there will be someone out there in Cyberworld who will ask me how I can feed it to my kids. The answer is simple: My kids eat healthy, but once in a while they need a treat!

Aldi Product Review: Aldi Jumbo Waffle Cones $1.49 and Neapolitan Ice Cream $1.99

Aldi jumbo waffle cones
Summer is here - well at least it feels like an outdoor sauna here in South Florida. In the midst of the hot temperatures and the scorching sun, Aldi sure has come to my family's rescue with their cheap and exceptionally crunchy Jumbo Aldi Waffle Cones

When my dad and his girlfriend were visiting for a couple of weeks, we were always looking for frugal treats, and Aldi sure did the trick. For the six of us, it would have cost a minimum of $4 per person = $24, if we were to get ice cream at the beach or at any of attractions we went to. However, if we waited until we got home to make our own personalized ice cream cones from Aldi, we were in for a a much more frugal and tasty treat.

Aldi Product Review: Aldi Millville Frosted Flakes $1.69

Aldi Millville frosted flakes
A few weeks ago my son and I decided to give the Aldi Frosted Flakes a try, and my sons agreed to do a taste test.

One of my oldest son's favorite cereals is Kellogg's Frosted Flakes. I used to just stick to cornflakes with sugar, just as I had when I was growing up, but then I realized how much sugar the little fellow actually added to his cornflakes. To control the balance between cereal and sugar, I knew that the Kellogg's Frosted Flakes would be a better option, but when I tried to switch to the low sugar Kellogg's Frosted Flakes, my son certainly noticed, and he would start sneaking out the sugar. At age 8, we are sticking to Frosted Flakes, and I usually stock up whenever there is a BOGO sale and I have a coupon. However, sometimes I do run out, and when I do my son is not happy.

Unadvertised Aldi Deals: Bananas, Salad and Meat Bargains

Aldi is the place for bargains, but quite often the best way to save at Aldi is through unadvertised bargains.

My local South Florida Aldi store had ripe bananas on BOGO sale. Yes, you read that right. A BOGO sale at Aldi. Keep in mind that these were ripe bananas, but still at $0.22/lb they would be great for baking. I seriously considered picking some up for banana bread, but I knew they would have to be used that same day or the next, and baking banana bread just could not fit into my schedule.

This week I also found of in-store  Aldi markdowns on ground beef. Not good enough for me to pick it up, since I still have ground beef in the freezer, but still at a great per pound price.

Aldi Product Review: Aldi Diapers - Lullabies Diapers $5.49

Aldi lullabies diapers
I recently ran low on diapers for my 20 month-old son , and I had not found any great sales, so I decided to give the Aldi diapers a try. The Aldi diapers are sold under the brand Lullabies, and I was curious as to what to expect.

At $5.49 for a jumbo sized bag of diapers the Aldi diapers are definitely the cheapest around at regular price, and while I can usually get diapers cheaper when I stock up on sale with coupons or mail-in-rebates, $5.49 for a pack of diapers surely beats the regular price of $11.99+ for a jumbo bag of name brand diapers.

There are 31 diapers in a jumbo bag of Aldi diapers size 4, which means that each diaper cost $0.18 (Compare that with $0.35 for a name brand diaper a regular price). A jumbo bag of Aldi diapers size 3 has 36 diapers in it ($0.15 per diaper).

Hot Aldi Price Alert: Aldi Eggs $0.79 In Some Aldi Stores

The Aldi egg prices have increased in South Florida, and we are now up at $1.29 for a dozen of Aldi Goldhen Eggs, so I am hoping (but doubting) that we too will see a great sale on Aldi eggs this coming week. Some Aldi shoppers are lucky this week, as you will have Aldi eggs on sale for $0.79

I have found Aldi Eggs on sale at $0.79 starting 4/17 in the following Aldi ads.

Aldi $5 Off Ham - No Coupon Required in Some AL, TN, KY,and MS Aldi Stores

While, the Ohio Aldi Coupon I mentioned earlier is needed for a discount, some Aldi shoppers are even luckier. The $5 off Ham Aldi offer in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and in some Kentucky Aldi stores does not require a coupon

The Alabama deal is from 4/13/11 - 4/23/11, so you should still be able to pick up a cheap Aldi ham in Alabama and Tennessee.

While it is only a few areas that are participating in the $5 off Ham deal, I suggest you check out the ham freezer at your local Aldi store, as you might just get lucky and find an unadvertised  in-store discount.

The $5 off Ham Aldi Deal - No Coupon Required deal seems to be good in:

Aldi Recipes: Grilled Salmon With Raspberry Vinaigrette and Spinach Salad - Hot Aldi Price: Spinach $0.99

I love that I can find cheap frozen salmon at Aldi, and my husband is really enjoying being treated for dinner once in a while. Since I discovered that Aldi had salmon on sale at $3.69, I have been trying to come up with simple and cheap recipes, so that my husband can have some variety in his special salmon meals. One of the meals is Grilled Salmon with Raspberry Vinaigrette and parsley, and tonight I combined it with a fresh cheap Spinach Salad.

The grilled salmon with raspberry vinaigrette and spinach is extremely easy to make, and for a salmon meal it is quite frugal as well.

Aldi Product Review: Strawberries Hot Aldi Price Alert $0.99 - $1.99 Per LB

I grew up with fresh strawberries in the garden, and before high school I even worked as a strawberry picker one summer. I absolutely love strawberries, but I am often disappointed with the taste of the strawberries I buy at the store. We are in the middle of strawberry season here in South Florida, and Aldi has had some great tasting strawberries for the past couple of weeks, and the Aldi strawberry prices have been pheneomenal as well.

Last Wednesday I picked up two packs of strawberries at Aldi at $0.99 each (South Florida sale in effect until Tuesday 3/29), and I sure wish I had bought more. They were fantastic, sweet, had a perfect strawberry aroma, and what a great price. They looked great the day I picked them up, and my oldest son and I had a bunch for dinner.

Aldi Product Review: Aldi Flour - Baker's Corner - Hot Aldi Price $1.78

Aldi Bakers Corner Flour
I do a lot of baking, which is why I am very excited about Aldi's prices on baking items. Before Aldi arrived in South Florida, I would stock up on Gold's flour, whenever the price went under $2, and I would otherwise change between Publix flour at $2.29, or Target flour when it was cheaper (UPDATE: current Target flour price $3.04).

The price on Aldi flour is currently $1.49 (Update 7/13 $1.78) in South Florida, although I have heard reports of it being even cheaper in other parts of the country.

The Aldi flour is sold under the name Baker's Corner, and it is all purpose, enriched, bleached flour.

The ingredient list is short, and comparable to other flour brands, and I have not discovered any difference between Aldi flour, Publix flour, Market Pantry flour (Target), or Gold flour. In fact I think it is completely the same, and the baking results are great no matter what flour brand I use. As long as the end result is great, the brand name says nothing to me. The price; however, is what really matters, and the price on Aldi flour is great.

Product Size Publix Aldi Target Walmart
Flour Store Brand 5 lb $2.29 $1.49 $1.77 $1.74

Aldi Product Review: Belmont Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream from Aldi $1.99

Belmont Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream
My freezer was filled up to the max, but when I discovered that Aldi sold mint chocolate chip ice cream for $1.99, I convinced myself that I could find room both in the freezer and in the grocery budget.

Aldi stores have a couple of different ice cream brands, but I picked out the Belmont mint chocolate chip ice cream, because it called my name.

The creaminess is just right, and the chocolate chip mints have a perfect mint taste that leaves a minty flavor lingering on your tongue long after you have taken your last bite of ice cream.

The Belmont Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream had a very natural flavor and feel to it, and it felt like eating real ice cream. I am a big fan of the low calorie ice creams, frozen yogurt and anything to cut the calories, but once in a while it is good to get your hands on the real kind - the ice cream that take you back to childhood, when ice cream was ice cream with no artificial flavors, - preservatives and artificial sweeteners with names that I cannot pronounce.

Aldi Product Feature: Benton's Cookies Honey Graham Crackers $1.19 - $1.79

Bentons cookies honey graham crackers aldi
My family has been quite brand loyal over the years, but thru couponing we have learned to give in for some items, but for others we still stick with our old favorites.  The Aldi Spot has gotten me totally interested in trying out many of their brands.   One of our new tries this week is Benton's Cookies Honey Graham Crackers.

Honey Maid Graham Crackers was one of those brand loyal items.  My mom is the biggest graham cracker eater that I know of, and since I get all her groceries for her I have tried to save her money by slipping in a different brands, whenever I found a great deal.  But she never found one she was satisfied with--so Honey Maid it was. Until yesterday.

The Aldi Price

On my Aldi trip I saw the Benton's Honey Graham Crackers and the price was $1.79, which is lower than I have been able to get the Honey Maid in a long time (usually $2.50 is the best) so I grabbed a box for her to try.  When I looked at the receipt it was only $1.19--not sure if it was a special or price change or I read the sign wrong.

Hot Aldi Price Alert: 2 lbs Grapes for $0.99

Yesterday I picked up 2 lbs grapes at Aldi for $0.99. I have never seen a price like that in South Florida, and I am usually content with paying $1.29 /lb at Publix. I saw people buy 3 and for packages at a time, but I was conservative and stuck to the one 2lb grapes package. This is my biggest shopping regret of the day, I should have bought at least 2 lbs, because the grapes at Aldi were so tasty that they are now gone.

As with grapes it is never easy to predict whether or not they taste well, but these sure did, and my husband and the kids were thrilled.

Aldi Product Feature: Cheap Plantains at Aldi 4 for $1

The plantain is a fruit  that many people are unfamiliar with, and I was too until I met my Caribbean husband. Now plantains have become a regular part of my cooking, and it always amazes me how many ways you can cook them. Aldi has cheap plantains, and they are just as good as we everywhere else.

Plantains are very similar to bananas, in fact they are a member of the banana family, and in many Caribbean countries they are known as cooking bananas. However, plantains are harder than regular bananas, they very starchy, have lower sugar content, and they usually have to be cooked in order to be eaten. Some people refer to plantains as dessert bananas, and my first encounter was actually with flamed plantains, a dessert my aunt served in England when I was about 10 years old. I have yet to try making flamed plantains, as I am a bit intimidated by the fire part.

Green plantains can be boiled and has a bit of a plain pototato feel and taste. I am not a fan of these, but my husband cooks them with his Jamaican meals such as fish, chicken stew, or soup. He loads a lot of extremely hot habanero sauce onto it, so that he cannot really taste the blandness.

Aldi Product Feature: Aldi Milk Price $0.99 - $1.99 (Hormone Free Milk) UPDATE: 7/13 $2.39

Aldi milk hormone free
Aldi Milk Price $1.99
With four lactose intolerant family members, my family's milk budget is through the roof. This is why I am so excited that Aldi has a low price on regular milk. I am the only person in my family, who can drink regular milk, and the South Florida Aldi milk price of $1.99 (7/13/11 updated: $2.39) for a gallon (Sometimes $0.99 on sale) is a price that is hard to beat.

Amanda from Saving Myself Silly reports that 1 gallon of milk is usually $0.99 in Dallas, TX, so some of you should get this fabulous Aldi price on milk most of the time.

As for the milk it tastes just like any other milk I have tried, I usually buy the fat free skim milk for my breakfast cereal, and thanks to Aldi I no longer feel guilty about drinking milk, as the otherwise high cost of milk usually makes me prioritize getting milk for the kids only.

One of the great things about our South Florida Aldi milk from Friendly Farms is that it is free of artificial growth hormones. That's a big plus in my book. I have; however, seen reports that not all Aldi stores carry Friendly Farms hormone free milk, so check the milk at your local Aldi store.

Aldi Product Feature: Haribo Gummi Bears at Aldi $0.89

Haribo Gummi Bears at Aldi $0.89
If you have ever had Haribo Gummi Bears you will not want to try any other gummi bears, because nothing will compare. My husband got addicted to Haribo Gummi Bears, during our years in Europe, and not even the kids will eat any other gummi bear that I bring home. The only problem is that Haribo Gummi Bears are more expensive than the other brands of gummi bears, so when I discovered that you can find the Haribo Gummi Bears at Aldi I was excited.

Until Aldi opened in South Florida, I would buy Haribo Gummi Bears at Walgreens, whenever they were on sale at 2 for $3, Target has a bag of Haribo Gummibears for $1.79, and sometimes they go on sale at $1.69, and of course our local European store, which has the best selection has them for more than $2 for a small bag. The Aldi Price on Haribo even beats Amazon's bulk price, as you can buy a 12 pack Haribo Gummi Bears, 5-Ounce Bags (Pack of 12) for $13.11 with free shipping, which makes each bag cost $1.09 - $0.20 more per bag than at Aldi.

Product Size Aldi Walgreens Target Local Euro Store
Haribo Gummi Bears 5 oz $0.89 *$1.50 $1.79 $2.09

Aldi Product Feature: Aldi Oranges - Hot Price $0.99 - $1.19

Aldi Oranges $0.99-$1.19
Aldi always has a great price on oranges, and this week Aldi oranges are sweet and cheap. At my local South Florida Aldi store, 4 lb of naval oranges cost $1.19, but Aldi Price variations have been reported, and Aldi oranges can be found for as low as $0.99 in some areas of the country.
